Bruce Bekkar, MD, a magna cum laude graduate of the University of California at San Diego, attended medical school at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. His residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology was completed at LAC-USC Medical Center and Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles, and he became Board Certified in 1991.

He has been a practicing OB/GYN in San Diego since 1989, and is a Clinical Instructor in the Department of Reproductive Medicine at U.C. San Diego. "Dr. Bruce" has also had an interesting life outside of medicine. He played guitar and sang his way through college and medical school, and then studied acting for four years. Stand-up comedy was satisfying his creative urges until he began writing Your Guy's Guide to Gynecology, the idea of his co-author, Dr. Udo Wahn.
Shortly thereafter, he created a unique class for men only, "Women, their Hormones and You (W.H.Y.??)." His background in academics, as well as many years of teaching and performing, has made the course very popular. Both his class and Your Guy's Guide to Gynecology have attracted major media attention.
Dr. Bruce has been a guest on more than 50 local and national radio shows, and he has been on The View with Barbara Walters, Fox News Live, Later Today on NBC, and Woman-to-Woman on CBS; he appears regularly on Berman and Berman: For Women Only on the Discovery Channel. His work was the subject of a cover story in USA Today, as well as a feature article on WebMD. Self magazine, People magazine, Men's Health, Better Homes and Gardens, Cosmopolitan, and Jane magazine have interviewed him. On the internet, he serves as a Contributing Editor on RedHotMamas.org, an Advisor on Familynetwork.com, and he is a co-Medical Director of OurGyn.com the first and only gynecological website with information for couples. He has also written articles for DrDrew.com, MSNBC, and his own website, SupportiveGuy.com.
Other newspapers including the St. Petersburg Times, the Chicago Sun-Times, the Des Moines Register, the San Diego Union Tribune and Canada's largest paper, the National Post, have told his story. Your Guy's Guide to Gynecology was recently awarded "Most Original Concept" and one of the Ten Outstanding Books of the Year at the Independent Publisher's Book Awards, at the Book Expo America in Chicago in June, 2001.
Dr. Bruce is truly enjoying the opportunity to bring men and women closer in a new way. He lives near the ocean in Del Mar, California with Muffin, his talking cat.
