Intrauterine contraception is enjoying a renaissance in the United States. Much of this new popularity has been driven by high-quality research. Indeed, the cloud of suspicion that once hovered over intrauterine devices (IUDs) has largely been lifted. Specifically, it now appears that some alleged risks (eg, pelvic inflammatory disease [PID], infertility) were attributable to bias, not biology.
