TOPIC: Femring
#32207
Femring 2 Years, 2 Months ago Karma: 0
Hi ladies,
This is my first time at this forum/posting. I have been searching much of this afternoon for information about the Femring side effects. I have been using Femring for about a week and have already gained about 7 lbs !!! I have read in the pamphlets that this is a common side effect but my questions are...
1. Will I likely continue to gain weight?
2. Does that side effect go away after a period of time? And the weight gained come off again?

I currently take vivelle dot and prometrium. I am happy with that combination but have been having trouble with burning and pain after sex and went to my GYN for help. She prescribed the femring 0.1 dose.

Thanks all!

Thanks for your post on our website. Unfortunately, women gain weight during the menopausal years, but it has no relation to taking hormone therapy. Unfortunately, our metabolism slows down, and that coupled with lack of exercise, can make us gain weight. I would encourage you to talk to your doctor, but also begin a program to include physicial activity, and watch those calories through a healthy diet. Please keep us informed!!! Lots of luck

I have been on Estring for near three years and have had no weight gain from it...Sometimes you can read something on the side that says that you may gain weight and this is like a magic potion going off in your mind...You now are hungry and it becomes a mind game...I would just try counting your calories and stay active...

I would think that the burning after sex will be altered by the Femring but give it a chance to work...This circular disc that feeds hornomes replacement therapy into your inner vaginal canal is just awesome..I hope you find as much satisfaction from this as I have found from Estring..Take care..Caroline

Thank you Karen and Caroline for your responses.
Karen, what you wrote is true but is not my story. I have been on other HRT for 10 yrs. I went through premature ovarian failure. My weight is the same today as it was 25 yrs ago - normal. I am very active. As I mentioned, I gained 7 lbs in ONE week. That is not normal. I did not change my eating or exercising habits. My question is more about femring specifically. Is my response abnormal?
Caroline, I have read that estring delivery and femrings delivery of estrogen are different in that estring stays local to vagina and femring is systemic in its delivery. Maybe I am getting too much estrogen? Maybe I should try estring...
