embarrassing problem 6 Years, 8 Months ago Karma: 0
When me and my husband have sex sometimes I leak urine. Usually when I am top. I am 24. Why is this and is there anything I can do about it? I also have problems holding my bladder, sudden onset need to urinate...are these things related?

arachea1,
Are you sure it's urine that you're leaking? Does the fluid have the strong smell of urine and does it stain the sheets?
Also, have you tried urinating before intercourse (to ensure the bladder is empty?)
If the fluid you're leaking is clear or milky in content, and has little or no odor, you may be experiencing female ejaculation.
Some of the predominate researchers in human sexuality (such as Cabello) believe that most (if not all) healthy females ejaculate during intercourse. Because the ejaculate is being released from the urethra into an already moist area, the occurence of ejaculation is often goes unnoticed.
This ejaculation is normal, and is believed to have a valid physiologic reason. The ejaculate contains fructose, glucose, PAP, and PHA.
In males, fructose and glucose (especially the former) are the substances responsible for "motivating" or enabling the spermatazoa to "swim". Since fructose is present in the female ejaculate, it is believed that the ejaculate is the female's pro-active contribution toward encouraging procreation.
In other words, females are not as "passive" in the process as was believed years ago.
If the fluid is indeed urine, you may suffer from USI (Urinary Stress Incontinance). If you are convinced the fluid leaked is urine, I would recomend visiting your family doctor or OB/GYN.
The Kegel exercises are also helpful in preventing USI and heightening the ability to achieve orgasm.
As one other mention, when pressure (such as a finger or penis) is applied to the front wall or "roof" area of the vagina, pressure on the urethra and/or bladder neck can produce a false sensation of needing to urinate. You can determine whether or not this sensation is false by emptying your bladder before intercourse. There are a few other possible causes for this sensation, but considering that it occurs when you are on top, it leads me to believe you are feeling a false sensation, due to bladder-neck pressure.
Hope that helps.
Don
Understanding the G-Spot and Female Sexuality

Um...as a woman who ejaculates, from my own experience it's not quite as distinct. Even if you empty your bladder before sex, some urine can still be mixed in, just not as much. There's no valve shutting off the bladder like there is with men. The quantity varies from a few drops to a cup or more (even with emptying out my bladder first). In my case it's a clear water-like fluid.
I would suggest toning the PC muscles with vaginal cone weights. This will stop the urinary incontinence she's having during the day, and greatly improve the pleasure with female ejaculation during sex, as you said.
[This message has been edited by zaneblue (edited 05 December 2003).]

Thank you both so much for your replies. I have emptied my bladder before sex and most of the time I am fine, I am a woman also who ejaculates, but when I am on top when I ejaculate there is a faint smell of urine, so thats why I was concerned. I am going to start working on my PC muscles as I have read that greatly improves incontinence and sex. Thank you again.

Considering the female ejaculate is introduced into the urethra (from the Skene's glands), if there is any urine in the urethra prior to the ejaculation, you may experience a faint scent of cretin or urine.
By the way, I applaud you for wisely deciding to begin the Kegel exercises. While the Kegel's can not *prevent* USI, they can help you better control it. They are also extremely beneficial in promoting blood flow to the pelvic area, heightening sexual pleasure, and providing you with more control.
I wish you the best of luck, and encourage you to enjoy what you feel along the way.
Don
