95% of prostatitis is non-bacterial and the majority of the non-bacterial prostatitis is due to muscular issues of the pelvic floor. Many Md's are not aware that they can assess these muscles by just palpating laterally to the prostate. These muscles can cause similar symptoms to "prostatitis"---urinary frequency, urgency, retention, urethral and
bladder burning, as well as constipation and
sexual dysfunction and pain. My book, Heal Pelvic Pain, has a chapter "Just For Men" and talks about the various diagnoses. As well, the rest of the book addresses pelvic floor issues, ranging from urinary frequency urgency,
incontinence, post-surgical conditions, etc. It is a helpful guide, but you still need to get a proper
diagnosis and proper treatment, from skilled pelvic floor healthcare providers: pelvicpain.org, prostatitis.org, ic_help.org, ic-network.org.
