TOPIC: Endometriosis and Lupron

Endometriosis and Lupron 6 Years, 10 Months ago Karma: 0
I had a Laparoscopy on August 29 and the dr. said I had the worst case of Endometriosis he had ever seen. I had been having bouts of excruciating pains during my period, and sometimes even in between. He was able to remove most, but not all, of it. I still have some wrapped around my colon, so he now wants me to take two 3-month shots of Lupron. I have read about on the internet and I am scared! Will I have medical problems afterward? Will I gain weight or lose hair? Should I follow a specific diet to help? Can I get pregnant after the treatment? Please help! Any advice would be appreciated. I have asked my dr. these questions, and he is very positive, but then other things I read about it just scare me. Thank you very much.

My 18 yr old daughter is experiencing the same problem. She had surgery 5 months ago to remove endometriosis but is again having pain. She took her first Lupron shot this week. The shot did not hurt, but she was very sore afterwards for about a day. Her doctor has only positive things to say about the Lupron. He said it will, in fact, make it easier for her to get pregnant when she is ready. If anyone knows of or has had any side effects from the Lupron, please let us know. My daughter is very hopeful that this will relieve her pain.

I took Lupron from July 2002 to December 2002. I am now diagnosed with osteopenia, my fracture risk is estimated at 60% and i'm having all kinds of problems now. I was healthy before the shots other than diagnosed with Endiometriosis. Yyou need to start doing research and lots of it. Maby go to lupronvictims.com Their is more side affects to lupron as with my bonedensity test the doc said i should not become pregnant at this time as lupron stays in your bones for 10 years!!!! Good Luck
------------------
There is another board that might be helpful to you, as well, that deals with women who have either have hysterectomies, or are considering them. I am not suggesting you have a hyst, of course, but many women on the board have had their hysts due to endometriosis or are considering it for that reason. This means many of them have experience with lupron and other endo treatments, and you may gain some insight from their experiences. I don't believe I am allowed to post the link here, but if you'll email me, I'll be happy to pass it along to you.

Re: Endometriosis and Lupron 6 Years, 5 Months ago
I went thru Endometriosis prior to 1999 when I was officially diagnosed. I went thru 6 months of Depo-Lupron during that period after the Laproscopic examination. It lasted for about 3 months after the injections then I had the pain again. I knew I could not have a hystectomy at that time. I went thru another Laproscopic exam with treatment again in 2002 with the Lupron injection for a year. This January 2004, I had the most horrible pain I have had so far, so I had a total hystectomy on January 30th. I am almost 3 weeks post-op and doing well. I wish I had done this years ago. There was no other treatments they could do for me, the endometriosis had spread to my ovaries, and I also had some fibroids. I am telling you honestly I am a chicken when it comes to surgeries. I am a Registered Nurse in Oklahoma but that doesn't mean we,as nurses, are any different than our patients. It is scary to all of us but please don't ever let fear of surgeries, treatments, or any doctor's orders keep you from taking care of your self. Your health is more important.
------------------
Angela Lash

[Note: This message has been edited by NEWSHE Moderator]

I was 18 when I had my Lap. done and found out I have Endo. I did the Lupron treatment for 6 months and It took me a year to get my period back and another year to get pregnant. The Lupron treatment did not work for me. I still have the horribly painful periods and worst of all I do not enjoy sex at all. I am not saying the treatment didn't work at all, it did work for the time I was on Lupron. Now I am 21 and my symptoms seem to be worse. Even after having a baby.Good luck to you and if you do decide to do the Lupron treatment try to plan during the winter, the side effects, especially the ohot flashes, really suck!
