TOPIC: NuvaRing and Atrophic vaginitis?

NuvaRing and Atrophic vaginitis? 4 Years, 1 Month ago Karma: 0
I have had increasingly horrible pain during intercourse for about the last 20 months (nearly as long as I've been using NuvaRing). I'm 23 years old, married 7 months, and miserable because no doctor has taken me seriously. I feel an intense, stabbing pain/pressure with penetration as well as a burning sensation (but no itching) deep in my vagina. I also recently had an abnormal pap test, and when I went in for the colposcopy, the doctor said my cervix was "eroded". She couldn't detect anything though, that would cause horrific pain during sex. (I've had about 5 different doctors in 3 years, thanks to the military.) I know atrophic vaginitis is a menopause-related problem that is usually treated with NuvaRing, but is there any possibility that it can CAUSE it too? After the colpo, the pain intensified and now when I dare to insert my finger, the walls feel grainy and rough. I'm going to get rid of the ring just in case, but am I way off base here? And if I am, what can be causing this?! It's really dragging me down, even though my husband is super supportive.

Lissa, Put your post in the forum for sexual pain under OB/GYN. That should get you a response from the Dr.

I have the same problem and did take it out during sex. After about 3 months on the ring it ALWAYS hurt during sex. Been off it for 2 months now and it's still very painful to have sex. The pain is enough that we can not have sex. it's destroyed my ability to be intimate with my boyfriend. another friend went through the same. This ring is bad news.
