TOPIC: Painful Intercourse
#25014
Painful Intercourse 4 Years, 3 Months ago Karma: 0
I wonder if anyone else has gone through this: I have a new girlfriend and we are intensely attracted to each other. Foreplay and oral are off the chain but when it comes to penetration things fall apart - she says it hurts. I have tried everything I know (different positions/not thrusting all the way/varieties of lubricants) but no matter how excited she is or how gentle I am she is in pain. I've never experienced this with any other partner. I've always had a gr8 lovelife so this kind of throws me for a loop. I don't know if the problem is with her or me. She is very petite (5'1" to my 6'3"). Has anyone else experienced this? Advice please!

Yes. Painful intercourse is a typical feature of vulvar vestibulitis and/or vaginismus (both of which, I have). Has she always had pain with intercourse? Does she have pain with gynecological exams and/or tampon use?

You should look at the forum on Sexual Pain Disorder (below this one), and she should probably see her doctor or get a referral to a vulvar specialist.

Good luck!

Thanks for your response. I've never heard of vulvar vestibulitis or vaginismus but I'm going to read up on them right now. She says she's never had pain during intercourse before me. Exams and tampons haven't been a problem either. I'm going to talk to her about seeing a doctor because obviously something isn't right. Once again, thank you!

Also it's important to determine if she has a simple vaginal infection: yeast or bacterial. Either of these, or even a chemical irritation (from condoms, lubricants, soaps, etc.) can lead to these symptoms. I think it's great that you're being understanding and learning about these issues.
Good luck to you both.

Yes, the fact that this is a new problem for her makes it quite possibly a physical problem, such as an infection or an allergy or even something more serious. That's why I suggest that she see a doctor right away.
