This is my first time doing this but I thought that it might help. Here it goes...About a week ago my girlfriend of almost ten months got a "UTI" She called the doctor the next day and he prescribed her an antibiotic called Bactrim. An hour after she started taking it, her inner labia was starting to become swollen and painful. It progressivly got worse, and when I saw her on Wednesday it had swollen so much that it had protruded past the vaginal lips. We looked online and found that sometimes "UTI"
antibiotics can cause an instant yeast infection. During the previous 2 days she had been using a vaginal cream for the irritation. So we go to the pharmasist and he recomends an anti-fungal cream. She uses it and later that Wednesday night she was in agony. She said it made it worse. So we stopped with the Anti-fungal. Thursday wasnt any better and she went to a Urgent Care clinic because her OB/GYN is in a different state...she is currently going to school out of state. They took some samples, and her yeast levels were regular and they were'nt for sure what was wrong so they told her to stop taking the antibiotics, because she could be having a reaction. And they told her of another cream. She called me on Friday and said that her mom got her an appointment with another OB/GYN because her's was unavailable. Later that night I went over to her house and she told me that the OB/GYN wasnt sure what was causing this and that she had to bring in her assistant in to look also. They said that her Inner Labia was swollen 8-10 times the normal size. Still they were unsure of what it was. So they took blood samples and sent them off. The bad part of this story is that the OB/GYN wasnt sure what it was and told her that she was sending off the
blood test to check for possible HSV...When my girlfriend told me this, she was freaked out. I have to admit I was a little freaked also, but I kept my cool. I told her that it was nearly impossibe to have it. We have been dating for almost 10 months, and we have not been with anyone else during that period. She also had a pap smear about a month before we started dating and it came up clear. The OB/GYN prescribed her some steroids, percocet and Valtrex. She said the percocet was for pain and that the Valtrex was for the swelling etc. We looked online and I did some research on HSV. What I found was nothing like what my girlfriend had. The only part that was bothering her was her inner labia..thats it! No surrounding tissue or anything. Everything else is normal. And hers looks swollen and red. Everything I looked at online showed bumps and blisters and multiple areas of infection. It wasnt contained, it looked random...Now for the past two days, the pain and the swelling are starting to subside. She also uses desatin to relieve her of some irritation..Sorry about the long story I just didnt know what else to do.
So my main question is....what do you guys think? What could be the problem?
We wont know the results for about a week. Plus to add...I have never had any type of rash or bumps or any irritation ...ever. Everything has always looked normal. Plus ive heard that OB/GYN's usually treat almost all problems like an STD.
