ED Vacuum Pumps 6 Months ago

I have erectile dysfunction and although I have tried viagra, cialis and levitra, I am unable to sustain a satisfactory erection most of the time. My urologist has given me testosterone implants which have not helped. I had a trans-uretral resection of the prostate five years ago which may have contributed to my disability. My urologist has suggested a vacuum pump which is supposed to be effective 80 percent of the time. Does anything have any experence with these things? They involve putting the penis in a vacuum pump, sucking blood into it, then putting a ring around it to hold in the blood.

BlondBoy44,the vacuum pump works. My husband uses it when the pills do not work. He has been using it for about 5 years . He says it dose not hurt and he has all the sensation during intercourse that he had before
ED. I think insurance pays for it if your doctor prescribes it for you. Better check that out.

Ruby, thanks for the input. I have ordered a device and have been led to believe that both Medicare and my secondary insurance will take care of it.

I have obtained the ErecAid pump and have started practicing with it. So far, it seems to blow up the penis okay, but it immediately goes flat without the ring. Is this what your husband experienced at first?

Hi BlondBoy44,The pump draws blood into the penis which makes it rigid.Did your doctor or the instructions say to just pump without using the constriction ring? My husband always uses the ring and I think you can leave it on for about 30 min. without causing any damage , which really is long enough for the majority of women.

Thanks so much for hanging with me. I have had it several days and I have been practicing as the doc and the manual said to do. I am thinking that I just need to leave the pump on for a longer period of time to allow more blood to flow and the penis to get firmer. I have only tried using the ring one time so far, which is probably too soon. That is when it went flat. But, today I left the pump on five-ten minutes before I disengaged and I had a pretty good, fairly firm erection that lasted several minutes without a ring. I was encouraged by that. How long did it take for you and your husband to get used to it? Are his erections as hard as normal? How do you deal with the logistics of setting up the pump, using it, taking it off, etc. etc. before you have sex? Does this destroy the mood, etc.? Do you feel limited as to the number of times you can use it--say in a week? Bless you for your help.

Hello BlondBoy,My husband says the constrictor band keeps the blood in the penis chambers . If you don't use the band the blood goes out and then no lasting firm erection.Let me add this, we are both over 75 and for us the logistics were easy. He said "tonight?" I said "yes" we engaged in fore play then he would use the pump in our master bathroom and come back to bed for us to enjoy each other.I'm not sure if there is a limit to how many times a week you could use it but I would think several . When you get into your 70's tell me how often you can do it.! As for inconvience , we each have a great sense of humor and can tease about " Pumping me up"Oh and the woman may feel at first like your penis is cold but you warm up quick. Also his erection is harder than normal I think.

Thanks Ruby,
That is very helpful info. I think I failed to tell you that I am 65 and have previously had partial removal of the prostate due to enlargement. That was a decision that I have grown to regret because I think it contributes to my ED and has diminished the intensity of my orgasms. I will keep "practicing." Thanks again
