Yes, it is true. I masturbated prone for many years and developed sexual dysfunctions as a result. I was cured by following the advice on HealthyStrokes.com. The support group on Yahoo linked to HealthyStrokes.com has more than 1000 men (and more than a few women) who have all been through the same thing or are going through it now.

If you did it when you were younger but have learned to masturbate conventionally, then you did the right thing. TMS is a lot easier to prevent than to cure.
