Dear. Dr. Goldstein,
I was wondering if it is safe to have a vestibulectomy performed during pregnancy?
Also, how long is the recovery period?
Lastly, do you have any suggestions on how I might go about finding a doctor in Ontario who is skilled with performing this surgery? My doctor is able to do them but has only done a few in his career.
Thank-you!

Amber,
We never recommend vestibulectomy during pregnancy (or even during breast feeding). I would encourage a vaginal delivery if there are no obstetrical indications for C-section as a vaginal delivery makes the surgery easier in the future.
I would contact the International Society for Vulvovaginal Disorders ( WWW.ISSVD.org ) to find a very experienced surgeon. In my opinion, a surgeon should have performed at least 50 vestibulectomies.
Dr. Goldstein

quote:
Originally posted by Amber:
Dear.
