Elective C-section,please HELP

Hi there. This is my first post on this site. I have been lingering for a long time, and love all the help you all provide to one another. I am 23 years old, and have an 18 month old named Kaylee. (Born 1 day before Dr. Jennifer's Feb.10,2003. )I had an awful pregnancy, and have decided on a c-section for my next child. I had preeclampsia, 2 epidurals (which never took) and was in the hospital 6 days, and didn't even get a c-section. The ordeal was terrible. It was so much worse than I ever thought it would be. And not only that when my daughter was born. I was so upset about it all, I didn't even want to hold her. I had severe depression, which I am still taking medication for, and I feel as though It is something I always will remember. There is no possible way I could do it again mentally. So I've decided on a c-section. I know all the risks, and this is something I want, but have no idea how to ask my doctor, or how to find a doctor who thinks I am qualified for it. I don't want to just pick one out of a phone book, and also what about insurance. Anyone who knows anything about this please respond, or has had one. Thanks so very much
Jennifer

Re: Elective C-section,please HELP

Hi Kayleezmom:
This is a difficult problem, but you should by no means feel alone. Many women have issues with their pregnancy that lead them to request an "elective" cesarean (one done for non-traditional "medical" reasons).
I would urge you to do two things: see a board-certified OB (most have had this conversation with someone at least once already), and have an open mind about the outcome of the converation. Virtually all of the concerns you expressed are about problems you had with your first delivery that are not likely to repeat themselves in any way in the future. Also, remember, cesareans are a major operation and carry significant risks.
I doubt you'll have trouble finding someone who you feel comfortable with taking care of you- and good luck. I'm sure your next experience will be much better.

------------------
Supportive Guy
