birthcontrol issues with endo

alright i'm kinda confussed here. my doctor wants me to take the pill, (understandable i'm 18) but at the same time because i have been diagnosed with endometriosis and have it covering my uterus and ovaries and they want me to have a historectamy (when i was 16), they said that i am not able to have children. they said that the pill will bring my hormone level to balance but i'm not good at taking pills daily anywyas.
then the doctors were going to try depo shot, but my gynocoligist has told them that that will just increase my chances of getting pregnant. i'm sceptical on trusting doctors seeings it has taken them over five years to just discover that i have endometriosis. i wondered if there was anything else possibly that i might be able to take. and what the side effects are. or if i should even bother.

Re: birthcontrol issues with endo

Hello:
This is a tough problem; endometriosis can cause many problems, particularly when it occurs before the age of twenty. The worst complaints are chronic pelvic pain, irregular bleeding, and sometimes, infertility.
For any young patient with significant endometriosis, the best bet is to see a board-certified gynecologist on a regular basis- one who's comfortable treating this disease, and familiar with recent treatments. In particular, a pretty new medicine is available, called a GnRH agonist, which can shut down the endometriosis by dropping estrogen levels dramatically. This can take the place of doing surgery in certain circumstances, or be used along with limited surgery done via the laparoscope.
In any case, the best results are found with consistent care by the right doctor, and good follow through on your part- taking the medicines correctly, and going for check ups.
Also, you might want to check out our book, Your Guys Guide to Gynecology, to educate your partner about this disease.
Good luck.
------------------
Supportive Guy

Re: birthcontrol issues with endo

I heard about taking the pill too! However, my question is I already got my tubes tied, and that is when I found out I had Endo which explains all those years of pain and infections. Anyways, my question is it still okay to take the birth control pills?
