TOPIC: posthysterectomy sexual activity

posthysterectomy sexual activity

I am a 52 year old female and recently ( one week ago) underwent a vaginal hysterectomy. I am also a newlywed of 5 weeks ( seond chance !). My question is about "outercourse". We had enjoyed a vigorous sex life - once or twice a day; multiple orgasms every time with and without penetration.
Being unable to have intercourse has been one of the hardest part of the recovery but I would never do anything to jeopardize my recuperation. A couple nights ago my husband brought me to orgasm twice through external stimulation. Although it felt amazing at the time, we are both mildly concerned that it affected my healing - my doctor never mentioned anything about other creative measures but I have had friends who have been told they can function within reason. There has been no bleeding nor pain, only a slight tightening of the area when I washed the next morning.
HELP ! This is not a question I will pose to my doctor so I hope you can offer some assistance !

Re: posthysterectomy sexual activity

Hi Second Chance-
Well, I must admit this is a new question for me- but not that surprising. In general our concern after a vaginal hysterectomy- or any major operation- is that the tissues that are healing are not disrupted for four to six weeks. We advise against any strenuous exercise or intercourse for this reason. While I don't want to offer advice for any specific individual, any activity that doesn't fit into these categories, particularly if it doesn't cause discomfort, is probably okay. At the same time, the short period of healing makes it logical to err on the side of caution and wait.
As in any case, if excessive bleeding or pain is present, it's best to contact your surgeon.
------------------
Supportive Guy
