Vaginal Adhesion from Childbirth

Almost seven months ago I gave birth to a 9 pound baby boy very quickly, only pushing for 20 minutes. I had no episiotomy and had second degree vaginal tearing. At my six week check my Dr. found an adhesion; a fusing of tissues on my labia where an abrasion had been. She gave me a quick snip and sent me on my merry way telling me that it was rare and giving me estrogen cream to "keep the tissues healthy." I used the cream faithfully and, after another six weeks, my husband and I attempted sex. He is rather endowed and it was extremely painful, feeling too tight. We both inspected and it looks as if the adhesion has grown back. I am going to see a Dr. soon(just moved here)and I have been trying to do some research on the whole thing. I guess I want to know all about adhesions: how common are they, how are they treated, what happens when they come back, what should I expect from my Dr. etc.? I really need some feedback as we have not had sex in almost a year and it has begun to strain our relationship and depress me and I want to make sure that things heal correctly this time! Please!!!

Re: Vaginal Adhesion from Childbirth

I realize that this is an old question so I hope you read this and I hope that it helps. My sister-in-law had the same problem after she had her second baby. I really don't know all of the details but she had to have surgery to remove all of the scar tissue. She is fine now. I don't know how long it took her to heal though since it was before I knew her.

Re: Vaginal Adhesion from Childbirth

Thankx so much for replying to my message! Better late than never and I am not complaining...It really helps to know that another woman may have had a similar situation and that she is doing fine now. It gives me hopes that I will have sex again!(; If you ever get any more info about it I would really dig it if you could post it here, but just this post makes a difference! Thanks again!(:

Re: Vaginal Adhesion from Childbirth

Hello Milky-
Vaginal scarring and adhesions after birth are common- but it's a little unusual to have them lead to persistent pain later on. Certainly there are some changes, particularly after having such a big baby.
Your new doctor should be able to address these issues, but in the meantime, I would recommend using a lubricant whenever you attempt sex (after birth for all women). It may improve on it's own, or more minor surgery may be needed.
Good luck!
------------------
Supportive Guy
