pain in left ovary

hi. im new here and ive really enjoyed reading so many posts. very informative. i have a concern. actually 2. when i had my daughter 16 yrs ago i developed a fibrocyst. everytime ive gone to gy. he says it is a different size. evidently as of a year ago it is the size of a quarter. i am frustrated because i have pain during sexual intercourse. now i also have been having, for about maybe 4,5 months pain in my left ovary. it comes and goes. it is a quick sharp pain. it occurs before during and after my period. i also have pain during intercourse now because of this. it is even hurting some as i sit here with my legs crossed. i am searching for a new gyn. because i am not happy with my reg one. he is not interested in my concerns and isnt too interested in answering my questions. i did go to another one but got same treatment. so im off searching again. anyway, when can something be done about the fibro cyst. i mean i dont understand it is causing me pain and has gotten worse. thanks..nnh

Re: pain in left ovary

Hello Nnh-

Pelvic pain is a difficult problem to sort out, even for the most experienced doctors (I've been doing this for twenty years). I want to caution you from assuming that the pain you've had is related to the tiny cyst on your ovary- quite often women have much larger cysts for many years and have no symptoms.
What you need is a doctor who takes your complaints seriously and answers your questions. You may need another sonogram, or even a laparoscopy to check the pelvic organs directly, and "rule out" endometriosis. Then again, this type of brief pain may be caused by a bowel condition like IBS.
Go back in and talk about it some more, being careful to give specific info about your symptoms; and then ask what your options are for diagnosis and treatment.
Good luck!
