Hi all, I could use some advice and wisdom. I've very worried about a situation that my ex girlfriend and I are in. We had a volatile and quite bitter breakup about 2 weeks ago, I am getting over it and feel it was the right decision for each of us, however she has called me and said that her period is 3 days late. She just left this as a message and I've called and called and called and she wont answer the phone, its been two days, and I am going crazy with worry. Im worried about her, and Im worried about a very shaky, uncertain future. She was very upset when she called, and the breakup was a mess, I dont know if she is playing a game or what to believe as she wont call back or answer.

We had sex just once since her last period, and we did used a condom. However, there were few moments of indiscretion early at that time when there was penetration without the condom. But we quickly got one. I guess Im hoping someone can give me some wisdom on the chance that we are pregnant - we had sex about 5 days after this fertility calculator I found suggested she would have been ideal for conception, I worked out when her last period was based on how late she told me she was the other day. She is 36 years old. i understand the window can be narrow, considering her age and the fact that we were outside the ideal time, what is the chance of conception? I want one day to have children, but I know this isnt the right person based on how ugly things got. The absolute horror of this all is that her and I had gone through this once before when a condom broke without us knowing. We took action to avoid a potential pregnancy, but it was ineffective and we had made the decision to go through with an abortion. I feel absolutely terrible that this could have happened again, I hope she is ok, - what are the chances. We are mature, responsible adults and took precautions. I just wish should she would call as I am dieing not knowing what is going on.

The chance of conception from a single act of unprotected sex at midcycle is quoted at 20-30%. Your situation sounds less likely for a few reasons, but it's hard to put a number on it.
Another common reason for a late period is stress, which sounds like it applies here. Regardless of the odds, the only way to resolve this is with a pregnancy test.

I suspect that the chances of pregnancy are very low and that her period has been delayed from the stressful circumstances surrounding the break-up.
