HPV and pregnancy

I had gone in to get my pap done at 12 weeks of pregnancy. Two weeks after, I had gotten a phone call and was scheduled for a colpo. When I went in for the exam I was told that I had HPV. I was and still am scared, afraid, etc., but the doctors told me it was nothing to worry about and that I could still have sex with my husband. I have the warts and I don't want to take the risk. However, I wanted to know if there are any antibiotics or anything I can do to get rid of them while being pregnant?

Thanks.

Oh, also I wanted to add that I've always had normal paps. I'm very scared. I'm even afraid to touch my own husband or even kiss him.

Re: HPV and pregnancy

Afew years ago my pap showed dysplasia and it was thought that it was most likely caused by HPV.There was really nothing that they could do about it seeing that I was pregnant. You can't get rid of it unless you undergo a LEEP procedure which they remove the affected area of your cervix. They will not do this until after you deliver. There is no reason to feel afraid. You may have contracted this HPV a long time ago and it just decided to show itself now. But, you do not have to feel afraid. It's not going to spread to your husbands lips or anything like that. The fear about HPV is that it can cause cervical cancer. But it can take a long time before that can ever happen. If you get regular Pap exams and take care of it you have nothing to worry about.
