My husband heard on a T.v. show (Oprah) that is is not safe to have sex while the woman is on her period. (this was several years ago) <BR> We used to, but when he saw that show we completely stopped because he hear that the man can contract all sorts of diseases from the disgarded blood. Has anyone ever heard of this? I am not saying my husband is lying to me but am not sure that the person he saw speaking had the correct information. He told of a man that he and his wife has intercourse during her period and contracted so sort of disease from the blood and his penis fell off (literally) it sounds a little shady to me. lol My husband is really worried about that and I don't want to put him at risk and we don't plan on having sex while I am on my period no matter what we hear but, I am just wondering if anyone else saw this show or has anyone heard any other info on this subject? Sounds like he was watching The Mans Show on fox! Sex can be messy during periods, but if you have cramping it can bring relief!

Ideas that sex during menstruation was bad are ancient. If the woman's bleeding, then it's going to be icky and messy, right? I can't imagine what disease could be transmitted in this way. You could pass STD's that way, but you can do that anytime. This doesn't sound terribly rational to me, and from what I've heard about the Oprah show (I've never watched it), this doesn't sound like the sort of thing they would air. I've never heard anything about the blood being harmful. It's just messy, but some women like to use the cups that catch blood (Keepers and the other brand) so sex isn't messy during the period. My H and I don't have sex during that time. He used to have a problem with it, and then I got him to overcome it, but since my arousal got worse following my bladder infection, I can't get aroused enough for penetration without oral sex, so sex during my period is no longer an option. I hate it that I can't get aroused enough without oral sex, because I don't enjoy it at all and it feels bad to me at times. Not painful, just annoying and icky. But that is another subject entirely.

Does anyone know why some guys just won't have sex with their wife when she's on her period? Before I married my hubby, with another guy, we did it any day, never mattered. Now a days it seems like that is the only time I'm ever horny. God must be playing a cruel joke on me?

Trust me 20something, If he is playing a mean joke, it is on most of us. That seems to be a pretty horney time for me too.<BR> As a matter of fact, I have a girlfriend that had a hysterectomy and she kept up with her cycle, It was during the time that she sould have been on her period that she and her husband were most active and it was her doing!!! <BR> She still had her overies but no period. Cultural reasons, really. Blood is gross, disgusting, messy, why would I want to have sex when you're bleeding? That sort of a thing. Also, according to the Old Testament, a man is "violating the source of her flow" if he has sex with a woman during her period--because you are least likely to conceive at that time, probably! Or else, because it's messy. They never do seem to like anything messy.<P>That said, have you heard of Keepers and the other type of menstrual cup? Don't know the name of the other. They get rid of the mess. They go in like a diaphragm, and they catch the blood. You can have intercourse while using one. If it's the mess your H dislikes, then this might be the answer for you (provided you're not allergic to the product! I think it might be latex). <P>Also, it might be a sign if borderline low testosterone if that is the ONLY time you feel sexually motivated/horny. Hope this helps!

There are some things that I would not do during a period that I would do when there was no period. I am sure most of you can figure it out . I do not have a problem with it. It was not until my current g/f that I had done this. I found it rather exciting. I can remember once at a motel room we were at while on vacation, the bed looked like a scene from a horror movie. But we had a lot of fun. (Oh, the good old days) <P>So I guess as a guy, I may be in the minority.

I've had sex on my period but only when the flow started to lighten (which is usually on day 3). There was no oral stimulation but a little more hugging/kissing and there was only a little bit of blood on his penis afterward. A friend of mine used the Instead cups when she was on her period and her boyfreind didn't even notice it during intercourse. I tried it on the other hand and it was difficult. Not only uncomfortable for me but diffcult for him! So we stopped, I was upset because I initiated it because I was hornier than I usually was!<P>Another option maybe having sex in the shower or bathtub if they're big enough.

Serena, you may want to try again with the Keeper, which is a different brand than Instead and so it might work better. Thanks for reminding me of the name of Instead! <P>My H would never do anything during the period with either of his previous GF's. But, I told him that sometimes my periods last for 12, even occasionally 16, days. He was NOT going to want to wait that long. I told him it would be OK, maybe a little traumatic to see the blood but it would be fine. Of course not on my heavy days. No, on the heavy days, any little movement on the bed and I'm in more pain. It's awful. It's like, just sit in a chair by the bed and keep me company. Give my midol. Midol barely helps. Arg. I feel like I'm going to die. But after the first few days, then I'm open to sex. The problem is, no oral sex at this time, so usually we don't have sex during my period because I really usually need oral sex to get aroused enough (even though I dislike oral sex performed on me). Well, I don't like it, but my body apparently does.
