"Stop it's giving me a headache"

I have been experiencing mirgraine like headaches. They appear to come on right before orgasm. I've had these before but never this bad or frequent. I have just turned 40. I don't have any desire, but once I'm engaged in intercourse, I can't acheive orgasm. This has never been a problem until now. Is this hormonal? Please share any experience, or thoughts. Thanks

Re: "Stop it's giving me a headache"

I don't know anything about the headaches, but as for desire, it could be low testosterone. Sorry not more helpful, kind of in a rush today.
------------------
In case you want to visit my testosterone page, it is at mama.indstate.edu/users/anon/fsd/test.html

Re: "Stop it's giving me a headache"

thanks, I visited your site. Very informative. A nerologist told me these headaches were due due the brains release of to much serotonin. Any thoughts on this? I haven't had any luck in my search. Been going on for quite awhile now. I've had scans & test with neg results, Know answers. Since 6/25/02 been taking paxil 12.5 mg, now for over a week started taking 25mg a day. Still no desire & can't acheive orgasm. My Primary Doc knows about headaches, & what the nerologist told me, so him perscribing SSRI seem odd. Any help would be appreciated. PS I'm waiting on some blood work, Thank you in advance for all help...

Re: "Stop it's giving me a headache"

Sounds like you need less serotonin, not more. Not that I want to contradict your doctor, but I'd get a second opinion on that paxil if I were you. Are there other things that might raise serotonin levels? Do you drink coffee, smoke, drink caffeinated soda or tea, take any kind of herbal stimulant like ginseng or ginkgo? I've found that all of those decrease orgasmic ability. I'm sure you already know about the migraine triggers of cheese, red wine, chocolate, etc.

Paxil can inhibit orgasmic ability, and desire, also. It doesn't make any sense to me that you'd be put on these drugs! It's as if your brain is already doing what these drugs would do to you, and it makes your head hurt!

[Note: This message has been edited by NEWSHE Moderator]

Re: "Stop it's giving me a headache"

Lisa, I have to agree with the others on this one. I was actually hoping Anon would share some of her history with you on the SSRI's And she may yet. Have you had your Bolld pressure checked? When I started having migraines I was put through the ringer. I started at a clinic because I was new in town and had not gen. pract. Yet...They gave me pain pills and all sorts of stuff for my head but never could tell me what was causing them, I had an average of 3 migraines a week at the time. Finally they did a sinus xray and the doctor told me I had a cyst in one of my sinuses so he sent me to an ear, nose and throat doc...he said the doc. that sent me was crazy and set me up with a neuro. That neuro. did something no one else had thought to do...took my blood pressure. It was not bad high but he said it was high enough to cause me pain. He put me on med. and I did good for a while. Then I started having them again. I have noticed my triggers...not chocolate, red wine(i don't drink), not cheese.....Hormones! Well that and a drastic drop in the barametric pressure!(rain)
I have a migrain for about 3 days a month now and I think I may ge that under control going by what I have learned from Anon on this board.
It was just an idea and it may not work but it never hurts to try because hunny I feel for you........Godspeed Angela

Re: "Stop it's giving me a headache"

Depression and migrains can be symptoms of low estrogen. There are lots of other symptom also such as fatigue, sleep difficulty, saggy breasts, dry skin (SOMETIMES)lack of lubrication for sex and pain.Physicians seldom check this in younger women.

Re: "Stop it's giving me a headache"

Why was almost all the content removed from my post? It was (as I recall) an account of my personal experiences. I don't remember what else was here. I guess I am going to have to start saving my posts again so I can try to rephrase things when the moderator doesn't like them! It would be helpful if the moderator would actually say what it was that was edited out, like, "link to commercial site removed," or, "Bashing of pharmeceudical drug removed," or somethink like that.
Oh, I do remember I went on an on about my own headache, which I've had as long as I can remember. Yeah, there was some tangents, but why was this deleted? This makes no sense.
Well, no use in trying to repeat it, the moderator would only nullify my efforts yet again.
I have had a continuous headache as long as I can remember, and I talked about what I was given for that. Maybe the moderator objected to me using the name of a drug I was on and telling about how it helped a little but my mom made me stop taking it because she found out what drug it was and decided it was too strong.
I am having a very bad day, and having this post deleted has just made it worse. I'm a little depressed today, you know, things are getting me down. Plus this is the second consecutive day that my husband has had to do a business lunch so he can't spend lunchtime with me like he always does. Sigh.
I would like to say some helpful things, but at this point I figure no point it that, they will only be deleted. Moderator feels like moderating again.

Re: "Stop it's giving me a headache"

Thanks all since last post I've had blood test all is ok except my white blood cell count was 16. doc said that was a sign of infection will recheck in 1 month. Didn't feel sick or anything just tired though. I do have high blood pressure. I've been taking Atenenol 50mg for about 6 years. I take vitamins, multi B's,I don't drink, I do drink coffee, I feel tired all the time I am constanly yawning, my menstral cycles have been off for the last 6-8 months. I had 3 in june, 2 july, 0 yet for August. My OBGYN told me there isn't a blood test for pre-menapause. I'm so sick of Doc's it just makes me more frustrated. I did however have an orgasam without a headache about a week ago. but it took so long to acheive that I just wanted to give up. I have no desire though at all, it's different. I feel like something is wrong with me. Thanks for all the feed back. I will keep you posted.
Re: "Stop it's giving me a headache"

About 8 years ago there several times that right as I started to orgasm I had horrible pain in my head. It just happened a few times.
I read somewhere that headache brought on by sexual orgasm can indicate a medical problem that needs medical attention. Of course, I don't remember what medical problem they were referring to but I think you hsould consult a doctor.
Better play it safe; you'll be fine.
l
