I've been clean-shaven since I was 17, and love it. Like other posters, I shave against the grain.
Tips:
1) Never use a dull blade, and try to use one with a moisture strip. I use a brand that has little, tiny wires over the blade, as well, so I don't cut myself

)
2) Exfoliate dry skin with puff or loofah (I am glad to see some men know this, too!!)
3) Apply gentle shaving cream (a sensative-skin or moisturizing type) to area about 2 minutes before shaving it. This will soften both skin and hair, making it easier to shave.
4) After shaving, cleanse with a gentle, anti-bactierial soap. A dermatologist-recommended facial bar works well, and isn't too expensive.
5) Pat dry. Don't rub.
6) Use a vitamin-E rich moisturizer, preferably unscented and non-comedigenic ( am sure I spelled that wrong). Make sure, however, not to get the moisturizer into your vagina, or ontot the mucus membranes directly surrounding it.
7) Wear cotton, well-fitting underpanties. This allows the skin to breathe, and prevents irritation from "rubbing" of looser garments.
I actually would love to wax, but most of the salons around here won't do it. Those that do are so expensive as to be prohibitive. So, I shave. Your skin will become acclimated to it over time, usually a few weeks, and it will get smoother and easier. Also, if you shave only every other day or two (yes, you will be abit picky on those days), it will help reduce any tendancy towards bumps or ingrown hairs.
My only other insight is that if a woman is shaved and her man isn't, it can be uncomfortable in some positions. The shaved skin is very sensative (which is nice, most of the time), and his hair can rub if you're not careful.
