TOPIC: Tampon Use

8 years, 7 months ago #37778

Tampon Use

I have always used pads when on my period. The few times I used tampons they hurt. Well I got sick of always feeling dirty and getting bumps from the moisture clogging my pores when I wore pads. I recently tried Tampax Pearl tampons and I like them a lot. They come out very easily and don't hurt...pulling them out was what used to hurt me. However I do have one problem with them: I can't get them in all the way. I am able to push the applicator all the way in, but when I push the tampon in I can't get it all the way. It goes in until there is about 1/2 an inch to an inch left to push. It feels like it hits something and if I keep pushing it in it hurts. It is very uncomfortable. So at that point I just pull the applicator out. I am able to wear them this way but I just wonder why I can't get them in all the way. I have tried doing it at different angles but it seems to do the same thing. I looked with a mirror down there and just inside my vagina I can see the edge of the tampon...aren't they supposed to be farther up than that? Has anyone had this problem?
Thanks
------------------
~Holly~
[This message has been edited by HollyOllysGirl (edited 02 July 2003).]

Re: Tampon Use

Yes it should be pushed in further. It takes some doing the first few times. Try aiming the tampon toward your lower back, and at the same time do your best to relax your pelvic muscles (like you do when you urinate). Don't pull the applicator out at all until you've pushed the tampon all the way in. Keep trying. It'll eventually work and it'll become second nature before long.

Re: Tampon Use

And if things still aren't working out for you after implementing the advice given, could you please post again, as there are ways around all these issues and it is important for you to be able to properly insert a tampon.

Re: Tampon Use

I will try that. But is it bad to wear them as I have been wearing them?

Re: Tampon Use

If it is totally comfortable once it's in, and if there is no risk of it falling out, then I see no problem.
If the above conditions are not the case, then I think you have to do some work on it.
Post again if you fail to resolve any outstanding issue.

Re: Tampon Use

Also, no part of the tampon should be visible from the outside.

Re: Tampon Use

Well, this time I tried it standing up as opposed to putting it in while sitting on the toilet, which is how I usually do it. I angled it a little more straight back instead of upwards like I usually do. It seemed to go in farther without hurting. I'm not sure if I actually pushed it in to where to two ends of the applicator meet, but it did go farther in and this time I couldn't see the base of the tampon from the outside. Hopefully I'm am getting it in far enough and I can keep doing this without any discomfort.
------------------
~Holly~
