Pain AFTER intercourse or intense running

For the past two years I have been experiencing nearly unbearable pain only sometimes after intercourse or intense running. The pain feels like severe cramps which take up to 30 minutes to dissipate. Sometimes sitting in a HOT bath helps. Has anyone else experienced this before? My Dr seems to feel that since I am on birth control it could be my body "attacking" the sperm, thus causing the pain. I am having a hard time understanding that considering the pain isn't consistent each time I have sex, and happens after intense running. Please help!

Re: Pain AFTER intercourse or intense running

Er....you're on the pill, so your body is "attacking" the sperm??? That is the absolute dumbest explanation I've ever heard...definitely go see a different doctor--and not just for this. Anyone who claims to be a medical professional and gives you that explanation is a quack, and that's on a good day. Oral contraceptives have absolutely nothing to do with sperm...they don't attack them, they don't make your body attack them (your body is already a hostile environment, but that's another post), they don't encourage the little guys, they don't do anything to them. OC's work by, to put it in really simple terms, fooling a woman's body into thinking she's pregnant. They don't cause your body to "attack sperm." It is frightening that your doctor said this at all, and sounds like he should have his medical license revoked.
I am not sure what would give you the cramps after running (aside from simple muscle cramps), but one idea is to start keeping an idea of what sexual behaviors you engaged in when these cramps occur (positions, durations, rough or gentle, etc.). Some women can experience discomfort if their cervix is "bumped" roughly, which can happen during deep-penetration or rougher/more active sex. A hot bath would likely help a bit with this, as it's akin to bad menstral cramps. Some positions, such as "doggy-style," encourage deeper penetration, and this could be where your problem is coming in. If your diary shows this to be a pattern for you, consider utilizing other positions, or asking your partner to move more slowly or go in less deeply in those positions. I suppose hard running could disturb the cervix as well, though I am not familiar with that personally.
I am sure other posters will have ideas for you, as well. Welcome to the board, and we hope we can help you find your solution.
