Myomectomy

Has anyone had a myomectomy? How does it affect pregnancy? Is there scar tissue? Can you have a regular birth?
Re: Myomectomy

I'm just bumping this up towards the top for you, because I don't even know what a myomectomy is, so I am pretty sure that I haven't had one.
Good luck!
Tracie

Re: Myomectomy

I had a vaginal myomectomy in 1991 to remove a large uterine fibroid. I was told that I needed to do this in order to have a successful pregnancy. I now have two boys (10 and 6 years old). I was able to become pregnant within one year of the surgery. The only complication was that the uterine wall was left too thin to risk labor and I had pre-arranged 38 wk. c-sections with both boys. I don't believe I had scarring, but then again, I have FSD. Since it is 12 years since I had the myomectomy, I'm not sure what the current thinking is about vaginal myomectomy. When I did it, it was a relatively new procedure. Good luck and feel free ask any additional question.

Re: Myomectomy

I have had 2 myomectomys. I had one in 1996 to remove 7 fibroids and again in August of 2001. These were both done abdominally. I was unable to become pregnant after over 10 years of "trying". 6 months after the 2ns myomectomy I was blessed with a surprise pregnancy. My daughter is now 9 months old and the joy and light of my life. Due to the surgeries I did have to have a planned c-section for her birth. But, I would not change one thing - it was the best decision we could have made!
