Antidepressants and hormonal changes

Can antidepressants change hormone levels appreciably? I'm on a tricylclic antidepressant (Pamelor) for neuropathic pain and one of the rare side effects was breast enlargement . It made me wonder about what the drug could be doing to my endochrine system and other parts if it could cause breast enlargement. For the record, my petite breasts haven't increased in size but they're a little tender. (I'm perimenopausal ). Anyone on antidepressants notice any change?

Re: Antidepressants and hormonal changes

This is a pretty common drug (tricyclic antidepressant), around for a long time and considered to be one with not too many side effects, though it can cause (rarely) breast enlargement, it doesn't effect the endocrine system in a significant way. Probably your breasts are tender due to perimenopause. You should discuss this with your doctor. There is a whole host of information on the drug on the website. You can also get more information from your pharmacist. He/she will have additional information about nortriptyline written for health professionals that you may want to read.

[Note: This message has been edited by NEWSHE Moderator]
