atrophy and lack of Sex drive!!!

Was always highly sexed, equipment was on the large size...now at 55 looks like a 5 year olds, and worse is that I dont produce any wetness.
Have read about clitoral suction and wonder if anyone has used it before and with what success, the idea bing that it brings blood to the under engorged area...The famous one was so expensive and frankly i couldnt see mucc difference between that and what the sex shops sell at zilch of the price. What about creams that you rub on that sex shops sell...any hope there? Help as Im in a new relationship and feel so shy about this...how do you explain being dry after an hour of foreplay?!!

Re: atrophy and lack of Sex drive!!!

Sorry to hear about you problems. Perimenopause/menopause is not one of the nicer times in our lives. Have read good things about clitoral suction and creams but never needed them. My problem these days is low sex drive and when I do have sex its no longer satisfying In a relationship if it where me I would try to slowly build up to the sexual relations, getting to know my partner well enough to where we could eventually discuss these matters, I know it would have to be a little embarrassing but its part of life. I am sure most men have a little idea as to what women go through, wether they understand or not who knows lol. Hey an idea.....maybe this is deceitful in a way but during foreplay you could take a bathroom break and fill up with a lubricant gel, a lot of men wouldnt know the differnce. Maybe you could do this while trying to figure out the right way to tell him. You dont need any extra stress right now, although I do believe honesty up front is the best. It may not be as big of a deal as you think and if he cares for you he will be patient and willing to experiment in different way to help you feel pleasure. Good Luck, Sylvia

[Note: This message has been edited by NEWSHE Moderator]

Re: atrophy and lack of Sex drive!!!

Hi and thanks...Hmmmm Ive already taken those bathroom breaks and filled up with gel, only it doesnt help when he wants oral sex...! We sort of discussed it and he is really trying. Hes bringing me some oestriol cream from overseas as cant get it here anad thats meant to help with atrophy, but i just wish i knew whats needed to make it all wet again. Seems to me that all women dont have this problem...unfair I scream! Have you tried testosterone cream Ive heard it works wonders.Theres a book by an Australian woman doctor Sandra....who is most helpful, has lots of answers..Thanks

Re: atrophy and lack of Sex drive!!!

To one Eva from another:
I'm in a similar situation. I still have plenty of desire, but perimenopause took away physical in sensation in all the good bits and it's been unbelievably frustrating.
I don't think there's just one think that's a magic bullet, but a combination of things has helped me quite a bit.
A small dab of 2% Testosterone cream applied daily has worked quite well. On top of that, I'm following ZaneBlue's program (you can search this bulletin board for her name and you will find it). The basic components are vitamins (especially large doses of fish oil), no stimulants (caffeine, tobacco) and vaginal exercises (kegels).
I can't recommend highly enough the benefit of the exercises. She recommended and I use an exercise device called a G******. It's a simple plastic V that provides resistance and allows you to get stronger than you could with kegels alone. It's not easy but it's worth the effort. I do 15 minutes a day.
I tried Viagra twice, but didn't feel it helped enough to justify the cost.
All this said, I don't think my sexual response will ever be what it was when I was younger. I'm very happy to have made this much progress, but I'm still sad about what I've lost and worried that it will continue to get worse so that even with everything I'm doing it won't be enough.
eva

[Note: This message has been edited by NEWSHE Moderator]

Re: atrophy and lack of Sex drive!!!

You know, I'm very curious to know why ZaneBlue is allowed to mention the exercise product by name in her messages, but I am not.

There's little rhyme or reason to what get edited and what does not. More's the pity.

Re: atrophy and lack of Sex drive!!!

In the U.S. you need a doctor's prescription to get testosterone. I brought Dr. Berman's book "For Women Only" to my doctor and showed her the passages about testosterone cream and she was willing to write the prescription. I had to go to a compounding pharmacy to get it filled. (That a pharmacy where they will mix custom drugs, rather than just repackage them as most pharmacies do). I don't know what the deal is in europe.
