Premarin cream and sex

I am using Premarin vaginal cream to treat dryness and burning of the vagina and vulvar area. I read that you shouldn't have sexual intercourse immediately after using the cream, as it can be absorbed by your partner. My question is...just how long do you have to wait to have sex? I use it three times a week at bedtime, and am wondering if there is still enough cream the following day to be of any concern to my partner? The cream has helped me tremendously, and wouldn't want to go without it...but I don't want to go without sex either!! Does anyone have any info to offer??

Re: Premarin cream and sex

You may want to discuss this question with your doctor. However, according to what I have read, vaginal estrogen cream is not dangerous to men even if it remains in your vagina during intercourse. It will not have feminizing effects on your partner.

Re: Premarin cream and sex

I agree with Karen. From what my doctor told me, you really don't have to worry about feminizing your partner, but if it still bothers you, just use the cream after sex.

Re: Premarin cream and sex

ahem...my wife is now using premarin cream and worries about our having sex in the evening after she applies a new dose because she thinks I'll absorb some of it. Generally we no longer have sex until at least the following morning.

My question is... and this may be a weird question, so I apologize in advance...but what about oral sex... is it safe for the husband to give (oral sex) to his wife (who is using premarin)?

I am disappointed... can nobody answer my question? I would rather not have to ask my wife's gynecologist.

Re: Premarin cream and sex

One suggestion would be to call your pharmacist. Oftentimes the pharmacist will have information about products that are written for healthcare professionals which may answer your question. I'm sorry to say that I have not seen any medical literature of clinical trials that evaluated the effects of male exposure to estrogen vaginal creams during sexual intercourse or oral sex. You might want to go on the website of the product you mentioned, and they may have additional prescribing information for you. Hope this helps.
