Re: blood tests normal?
I would suggest that you get a second opinion if you are not satisfied with the first one. You did not mention any other symptom/s you are experiencing, other than hair loss. As menopause approaches, there are a few classic symptoms - hot flashes, night sweats, and changes in periods. There may also be changes in sleeping patterns which certainly can cause moodiness, irritability and depression. I do not know if you are experiencing these typical symptoms or not. As we grow older, our hair begins to change, including hair on our head, eyebrows, legs and arms, and pubic hair - which may become sparse which is caused by decreased hormone production. Some women also may notice hair on their lower face increases. Hair loss may occur as a result of estrogen levels decreasing faster than the male hormone androgen levels. These lower levels of estrogen aren't enough to block the affect of the androgen. It is estimated that about 1/3 of women between the ages of 40 and 80 notice their hair thinning all over their scalp but more hair thinning occurs on the crown of the head. The amount of hair loss varies from woman to woman. Women often use minoxidil to preserve their hair. Also, hormone therapy may help to restore some of the balance of hormones. Again, get a second opinion from another endocronologist. Hope this helps.
