Baby Boomers' Sexual Health Plus

BABY BOOMERS' SEXUAL HEALTH PLUS
In January 2006, the first wave of the 14 year long Baby Boomer generation officially turned 60 years old. The wave is huge (some 5 million strong) and have helped shape the world we now live in. Some call this group (born from 1946 - 1964) the ABYs, the Aging Boomer Years. This is a new thread that will appear here and on all our Bulletin Boards. We want to make this the place where each and every ABY can discuss health issues that impact their sexual lives, share and find commonality, be a support and self-help group. And, equally important, members of the Vibrance Network of doctors and experts will also participate in these boards sharing wisdom and ideas. They are Dr. Jennifer Berman, a urologist, author and educator and renowned expert in female sexual function/dysfunction and successful aging, Karen Giblin, author and educator president of the national Prime Plus/RedHotMamas on all stages of menopause, Dr. Andrew Goldstein, a gynecologist, author and expert on vulvar pain. Dr. Bruce Bekkar, a gynecologist, author and educator on the men's side of understanding female issues and Dr. Myron Murdock, a urologist, a respected principal clinical investigator who lectures and teaches doctors about male issues, including prostate health, erectile dysfunction, sex and aging and male and female incontinence. We ask that everyone email this page by going to the "UBBFriend:Email this page to someone!" located in the top-left corner of each post) or ask questions of our medical team here by emailing author@vibranceassociates.com The new ABYs are a fascinating bunch. The soon to be ABYs include the younger President and Mrs. Bush, former President Bill Clinton, Donald Trump, Tommy Lee Jones, Ben Vereen, Candice Bergen, Rollie Fingers and the couple who lives two houses over.

Re: Baby Boomers' Sexual Health Plus

As a woman in her late 70's I am past the Boomer Age but how the heck do we prepare for diminished desire the "been there done that" feeling of disinterest about having sex.How do we get back that youthful enthusiasm we once had. Our physical self has aches and pains and decreased physical power. The mucus membranes are fragile and dryer. What to do, what to do. Any ideas?

Ruby: We use every bit of what we have and make the most of it. How about a good erotic novel? Some great ones out there. Can get you in the mood every time. Nancy Friday did know how to write. Take some clothes off and tempt our husbands. We are just as good looking as any other women. Lot of great lubricants out there and whipped cream can be fun. What is wrong with walking around naked some time? OK I am sick but so what. We have to use all that we can to keep ourselves sexy and not let it stop as we then pass it on to our husbands. It works. I am not one to give advice as I truly know nothing but I do not feel that I have been there and done that. I feel that I have done something and am going back for more. We can not look at life as our lives are over as we are both sexually alive women. I just can not do that. Too much living to do.

Re: Baby Boomers' Sexual Health Plus

Well I guess thats the problem I don't feel sexy, I don't think sexy.I have no desire and seldom have erotic thoughts. I can't act it if I don't feel it.

Re: Baby Boomers' Sexual Health Plus

You have to want to do it to be it. Maybe that is just my way of thinking. Probably so. I can and you have to believe in yourself. You just have to to act the part. I love to flirt with him. I love to be suggestive and those are not bad things. Those are good things. I guess the freedom of the aging years I am having more fun with life. I can only say what I know. I am not a teacher. Just another woman. That is all.

Ruby: The most important thing is to be happy. Just be happy. Whatever you do live life to the fullest. Sex is great but so what. Life is wonderful. People are wonderful. Living is wonderful. Do not try so hard just be a wonderful happy woman as you are. That is all that counts. Nothing more. Be content. That is so important. We are all so special and the most important thing for you and I is just to make every moment count. Have just a wonderful 2006.

Re: Baby Boomers' Sexual Health Plus

Evidently, there are females of mature ages (60+) reading these postings. Sex still exists at mature ages, I am hoping! The women in my family are very pro-sex and younder men! I could tell you stories, but would rather do so over a cup of tea and in person. But, I would like to know what sex in the over 60 category is like. My work/ professional life to date has been so demading, that I have concluded my true sexual experiences will be some time afer 60. So, what can I expect? Is sex after 60 mostly oral? Does it depend on the partner? I am simply curious. I simply would appreciate a "heads up." And, I guess, some meaninful conversaton/ interaction. Thank you, ladies, in advance!!

Re: Baby Boomers' Sexual Health Plus

Caroline is the real go-to girl for this subject. I hope she's reading this and will answer you.

I'm 'only' 50 so I can't.

But I did want to say that life should have balance. If your work is so demanding that there's no time for love, then perhaps you should consider a career change. Don't wait till you're retired! Sexuality is something that needs nurturing. People who are sexual in their 60s didn't start at 59!
