TOPIC: Instant menopause

5 years, 3 months ago #31844

Instant menopause

I had a complete Hysterectomy Oct 28,2006. Which was a good thing because I had pre cancer cells on ovaries and, fibroids. I have Pulmunary Sarcoidsis and a family history of breast cancer. My obgyn put me on Bellamine S Tab for the flashes and sleeplessness and they are not working yet . I want to know if anyone has taken this drug and how long was it before they got any relief. I am thinking of trying Remifemin

Re: Instant menopause

I beleive Bellamine is only intended for short term use and can become addictive. You may want to give this a few more days, but if it's not working for you, talk to your doctor. The risks probably aren't worth it. I went into abrupt menopause over three years ago after breast cancer treatment and I know how rough it is.

Many breast cancer patients are put on a low dose of Efflexor (an antidepressant) for hot flashes and sleeplessness. You might ask your doctor about that.

I take 800 units of natural vitamin E daily which has helped me with hot flashes. The sleep problem is more difficult to manage. I took a small dose of Ativan (an anti-anxiety drug that is in the same family as Valium) at night for the first year or so until my symptoms settled down. It wasn't too hard for me to get off of it, but it can also become addictive.

Sleeping in a cool room in the nude helps, too.

Hang in there, it does get easier.

Re: Instant menopause

I've heard very positive things about Remifemin. Now, they make a Remifemin Good Night too. Both are based on black cohosh.

Some people take the regular Remifemin during the day and the Remifemin Good Night before bedtime.

There are free samples you can get all over the place on the internet but I think they tell you to try it for 12 weeks.
