Menopause Hair Loss/Thinning Help

I am 49 and had my uterus removed due to fibroids 5 years ago. I also was very anemic at that time due to the excessive bleeding that the fibroids caused.I took iron supplements and my iron levels improved. My hair on the top of my head and crown has been gradulally thinning since that point. It is now becomming noticeable with 2 nickel size patches and a widened part. Has anyone else experienced this? Is there anything that can help or stop the thinning?
Thanks!

Re: Menopause Hair Loss/Thinning Help

Most people experience some hair loss as they get older. There are a lot of factors that may be contributing to a pronounced loss of your hair in your particular situation.

Are you on any medications? How is your diet? Are you eating plenty of protein? Have other women in your family experienced this at your age? This article may help and give you a general overview of menopausal "hair" concerns:

Can you blow dry your hair in a way to conceal the thinning? Can you get a haircut that will hide the spots? Just stay positive- there are a lot of ways you can cover-up thinning hair!

Re: Menopause Hair Loss/Thinning Help

Some women notice changes in hair growth after they experience menopause. Hair typically gets thinner. Menopause is not the only cause of hair loss. It may also be caused by throid disease, or skin diseases. You should talk to your doctor about minoxidil to help your hair loss. You might not see results until about four months. Your doctor may suggest a combination of prescribed treatments, including corticosteroids in some situations. Other problems include hair growth on face (suddenly an eyebrow on your chin). These are some of the hairy situations we menopausal women have. Hope this is of some help to you.
