Hi freeat last. The reason I founded Red Hot Mamas in 1991 was because I had a total hysterectomy (bilateral oophorectomy/hysterectomy) and I had trouble dealing with my recovery. Today, we are the largest menopause education program in the USA. So, perhaps, I can help you through my experience. First, your doctor is right. It will take weeks (usually at least 4-8 weeks) before complete recovery, and sometimes a little longer. You will then gradually be able to return to your normal routine of activities. Just remember, the more you rest, the faster the recovery time. So, if you can get people to help you with your chores during this time, and you have a bit more patience, you will heal faster. It's important for you not to do lifting. And, don't be afraid to take pain medication, you won't become addicted. I felt very tired for about 8 weeks and experienced a lot of high and low feelings. Probably due to the pain, not sleeping well, not exercising. But, I must tell you there is light at the end of the tunnel. Once you allow yourself to fully recuperate, your total hysterectomy probably will help your quality of life to improve. Just stay positive, be happy with the choice you made, and rest. You can also chat with me through our bulletin board,
www.redhotmamas.org, or other women. I hope you are feeling better soon.
