TOPIC: starting menopause? not sure

starting menopause? not sure

Im a 39 soon to be 40 year old. my mother started menopause in her early 40's. Over the last 6 months I have skipped a menstural cycle, had one that lasted 3 days instead of the normal 6 or so and am just wondering if this is pre menopausal stuff. Now I do take 2 anti depressants for a seperate issue and know for a fact that side affects for both of these anti depresants are " possible increase in sweating" yes so its 35 degrees outside and im out there in jeans and a t-shirt sweating away. I dont dare ware anything heavier than a 100% cotton t-shirt, dont need a jacket in winter time and keep that fan going on my desk at work, heck people who come to visit me at home know to bring a sweater cause I dont keep it more than 66-68 degrees inside. I did have that hormonal test done by my doctor, the blood test to see if my hormones were out of wack and got a call a week or so later saying im not pre menopausal. I will just believe the test but am curious to know if there are other women out there who are experiencing the same thing, have been tested and told its not the hormones. Thank you

Re: starting menopause? not sure

I presume you had an FSH test, which may or may not always be that reliable to tell if you are in menopause. That's simply because it is hard to get a clear and accurate reading due to hormone levels continuing to rise and fall dramatically from day to day which makes it almost impossible to draw any kind of solid conclusion. And, this test can't tell you any other reason why your symptoms are occuring. I certainly would go to your doctor again and have your thyroid checked as well as any other tests, he/she may recommend. Regardless of what your tests indicate, you know how you are feeling, as well as your menopause status. I hope this helps you.
