Vaginal dryness/atrophy & hot baths

I thought I had a UTI and/or yeast infection and doctor told me I do have a bit of yeast infection but main thing is irritation and he thinks it's drying/thinning of the vaginal walls.
He told me hot baths can be drying. I don't use bubble bath or anything, so is it really that bad? I love my long, hot baths.
But I don't like this irritation either. He says next month we're going to talk about estrogen creme or pills.

Re: Vaginal dryness/atrophy & hot baths

Some women experience dermatitis which causes irritation around the vagina. This may cause itching, burning and stinging sensation. It is oftentimes caused by clothes detergents, bubble baths or shower gels, soaps and perfumes. It can also be caused by allergic reactions to condoms. My suggestion would be to listen to your doctor but also take certain percautions by wearing cotton underwear which is washed in hot water, soap, and make sure you rinse them twice before wearing them Avoid using perfumed panty liners, and tight fitting clothing. Avoid using bubble baths and soaps around the vaginal area, and don't use perfumed toilet tissue. Perhaps, if you do all this, a warm, long bath might not be so irritating. Discuss these suggestions with your doctor. Good luck and get back to us about your progress. Thanks for logging onto our site.
Hope this information helps.

Re: Vaginal dryness/atrophy & hot baths

Before I started vaginal estrogen and I had vaginal atrophy, I found that for a few hours after a hot bath was the only time I was able to produce my own lubrication so I don't think it's all that bad.

Re: Vaginal dryness/atrophy & hot baths

I have been wearing cotton panties for most of my life. Because of hysterectomy I don't need pantyliners. The irritation is not quite so bad but sometimes it still feels dry down there, especially after a long, hot bath day before. I have also switched soaps. I go to doctor tomorrow. I may use estrogen creme at least for awhile, although I'm a little concerned about possible side effects.
One thing -- I also notice a stronger smell with my urine.

Re: Vaginal dryness/atrophy & hot baths

I also have vaginal atrophy and dryness and was told lichen sclerosis. I am itchy in the vulval area. very distressing. am using estrogen cream and a little cortisone cream. but I am neurotic so I hope that my anxiety is not causing me to itch more! Help!
