TOPIC: hot flashes at specific times of day

hot flashes at specific times of day

I've been using real (not man-made) hormones for about a decade and a half. I had some difficulty in getting my Rx so went without for about 9 or 10 days. Two nights ago, I realized I was having hot flashes near midnight, or a bit before. I'm wondering if anyone else has ever noticed a time-pattern to their hot-flashes. My female pharmacist figures it is to be expected due to circadian rhythms.

Re: hot flashes at specific times of day

It sounds like you are having night sweats, which are basically the same as hot flashes but occur at night. According to sleep studies, many women actually sleep right through their hot flashes.
The National Sleep Foundation conducted a poll and found that 44% of US women going through menopause and 28% of postmenopausal women have hot flashes an average of three nights a week. However, if you are waking up frequently, you may also want to ask your doctor to check you for thyroid disease, or other medical problems. Menopause is not the only culprit for hot flashes. Hope this is of some help to you.
