TOPIC: Testosterone Replacement

Testosterone Replacement

Hello...I am a 60yo woman with a complete hysterectomy/ophorectomy 7 years ago. I have recently been on testosterone replacement with DHEA and prometrium as well under the guidance of an inspired forward thinking sexual medicine clinician. I have been so excited as I felt my libido and sensitivity returning. However, I've been shocked to discover that my hair has begun falling out and I have stopped until I could research the issue with my doctor. He is on vacation for several weeks and in the meantime I thought I would see what other info I could find. My first concern is whether or not it will grow back. I would also like to know if there is any way to deal with this in terms of dose or something. This was my last hope and I am so depressed that I felt I was so close to regaining what I had lost.

Re: Testosterone Replacement

There are many possible causes for hair loss. It may or may not be linked to the administration of DHEA. Investigating the causes of hair loss is usually the task of a dermatologist. You may choose to consult a dermatologist before your clinician returns from vacation or wait to consult your clinician upon his/her return. I hope this is of some help to you.

Re: Testosterone Replacement

In men Testosterone administration causes hair to fall out due to DHT conversion. This is a by product and bad cousin to the testosterone. Some prescription shampoos help with this by blocking the DHT receptors in the scalp. There are also DHT blockers if it is discovered that this is the cause.I hope this gives you a bit of insight until your doctor diagnoses the problem.
