Menopause/Painful intercourse

I am a widow of almost two years and attempted intercourse for the first time last week..Ouch ouch and ouch..PAIN...I am like a virgin and we could not complete the act.it hurt to bad...I also noticed I am starting night sweats again! I had them about 6 years ago..What the heck they are Back ! Whats going on? Is this normal..? I am scared to go on hormones,I have a Dr. Appt on the 17th of March and I know they are going to say hormones..I want to know what I can do to have itimacy again..I dont care about the night sweats,I can deal with them..But the ideal of never being able to make love is an awful aspect! Please advise..Plus why would night sweats reappear after all this time..I am 54.I had a hysterectomy at 34 and they left one ovary..But I thought once you went threw the night sweats and that it was over...But like I said the painful intercourse is my main thing..HELP>>HELP>>>HELP>>>

Re: Menopause/Painful intercourse

Thank you Phoenix Rising for logging onto our site. It's great that you made an appointment with your doctor, unfortunately, you are in pain now and you should be having pleasurable sex. Let me share some sex helpers with you. Sex does not have to be, once upon a time. You are young and there are natural therapies available that you might want to try first such a topical lubricants designed to add moisture to your vagina. There are several lubricants available such as Replens, Astroglide, KY Jelly which you can find at your local drugstore. Some of these products provide lubrication and have a temporary warming effect. Replens also has a long acting vaginal moisturizer which you apply with an applicator into your vagina and the moisture lasts for three days. Your doctor may suggest a topical prescribed estrogen cream, a vaginal estrogen ring, or vaginal estrogen tablet. Bottom line, don't be embarrassed to discuss this issue with your doctor and the discussion should entail natural approaches as well as pharmacological approaches. Although sex may be challenging, don't give it up, don't flatline it, keep that spark going and keep an erotic medicine chest which includes vaginal lubricants/moisturizers which actually can be quite fun to use as well. Please follow up with us and let us know how you are doing. Good health to you.
