His and Her Health

i'm the 54 year old who got her period after 8 months. took provera and bled again the next week. the bleeding was very very heavy, no clots, just one day of cramping, painful breasts. went back to the gyn. did a transvaginal ultrasound. 11.8 endometrial lining, "with lots of junk inside." he suggested that i will indeed start bleeding again within a few days! then he will see me in 4 weeks for a biopsy and hysteroscopy. he did blood work and i am awaiting results. my mom had breast cancer and then endometrial cancer so i am somewhat concerned. any thoughts on this?? any questions i should ask??

"It sounds like your doctor is doing all the right things. Since you are having a heavy period and have an endometrial lining that is 11.8 mm, it is a good idea for him to do an endometrial biopsy and look inside your uterus with a telescope (hysteroscopy).
These tests should help find any potential problem.

Since your mom had breast cancer, talk with your doctor about how often you should be tested for that as well. Other screening tests include looking at your ovaries during the ultrasound of your uterus (this was likely done when they checked the lining of your uterus) and having a colonoscopy since you are over 50 if you haven't done it already. Both breast and colon cancer can potentially be more likely with your family history."
