Menopause and work

I have been perimenopausal for a couple of years now, but only realised it very recently. I've had a fair bit of time off either feeling debilatated or seeking medical advice on my litany of "bizarre" symptoms. Now that I know why I feel awful a lot of the time I am relieved.
I have a woman supervisor at work who in the past has twice had me reprimanded for taking time off to see doctors and have tests done to try to find out the cause of my "illness".
She has been through perimenopause herself and possibly the full box and dice, but seemed to breeze through it. When I told her I was having some particularly extreme symptoms, she was completely unsympathetic. I am worried about how I am going to cope at work with such a lack of understanding.
Has anyone else dealt with this side of it? I'm scared she might try to use my symptoms to get me fired or demoted.
