Dr. Goldstein. I am concerned about the lidocaine protocol. I suffer from primary VVS. I have used lidocaine for 3 days but I ended up at the ER with a bad reaction to it (after 5 days of not using it). The lidocaine (5%) didn't burn at all when being applied on the vestibule and the doctors say it was rare to have an allergic reaction to it (especially after 5 days of not using it). Do you know of any other case where a woman couldn't use lidocaine? (I am not asking for your medical advice -I'm still waiting for the blood test results) but want to know if there are cases like mine where lidocaine can't be used or have lead to bad reactions.

It would be very unusual to have an allergic reaction 5 days after using a medication. Almost all allergic reactions occur within 36-48 hours after exposure. <BR>Many women are not be able to tolerate the lidocaine, but usually it is because they have reactions to the base (such as in Emla or Elamax) and not to the lidocaine itself.
