Vulvar Crohn's - any success stories in treatment?
I have had Crohn's disease for 10+ years now, and was diagnosed with vulvar Crohn's approximately 9 years ago. The initial diagnosis was vulvar vestibulitis, but upon biopsy tissue was consistent with Crohn's tissue.
So far no treatments have worked, but I am anxious to hear of any knowledge you might have in the area (only 1% of women with Crohn's have this complication). I've tried varying my Crohn's meds (my Crohn's disease is otherwise stable, with the initial theory being that it was unstable and stabilizing it would help the tissue to heal), topical steroids/hormones, had prednisone injected (excruciatingly painful), topical lidocaine, neurontin, nothing's worked. My dr. finally had me take the pill continuouly so at least I could avoid the pain associated with menstruation (I can't stand to have anything touch the area of tissue - it's agonizing). Intercourse has been out of the question since not long after my husband and I married!
Do you know of any successful treatments for vulvar crohn's tissue? Or any resources I could look into? I'm in the Boston area, and I've seen several specialists at Lahey Clinic for this already. I'd be willing to go almost anywhere to see someone who's successfully treated vulvar Crohn's...
TIA!
[This message has been edited by JAB (edited 09 July 2004).]
