TOPIC: I really need to ask this

4 years, 5 months ago #22006

I really need to ask this

-So i had a vestibulectomy 7 weeks ago. Pretty standard.....but i am 7 weeks post, and there is a spot on the left side, which was the worse side in my case that is still painful. I am not saying the VVS came back, it feels similiar though. my Dr. said its a sensitive scar from the surgery. So, no attempts at sex which really is frustrating, not bc of obvious reasons alone but because I want to know if the surgery worked or not already!
But the big thing is, if by Feb the scar doesn't become unsensative, they have to remove it. She said it's no big deal and its a local and just one or two stitches, but in her 13 yrs doing this procedure i am one of only two girls that would have had to go through this.

Anyone else out there?

Re: I really need to ask this

I had a sensitive area for months following my surgery. I'm not positive that it was from the scar, but I wouldn't freak out just yet. I know how frustrating the healing process can be, but keep following your doctors instructions and keep in mind that its going to take some time.

Re: I really need to ask this

SO, it just went away? Mine is on one side and kinda looks like a pink circle, well at least its more pink than the rest. The area is btwn to parts of skin that i guess at some point stretched to cause to small creases. It's probably the darkest moment for me throughout all of this. Having the surgery, recovering, I thought at 2 months post I would be celebrating not in a new kind of pain.
I am thinking of not waiting and having it removed now just for peace of mind, and to stop sitting here feeling like the control i thought i took back in life is still redeemable.

Re: I really need to ask this

Andrialea,
My doctor gave me some cream to rub on the area twice a day (I can't remember what it was called). I don't know if it was the cream that ended my pain or just the passing of time or a combination of both.
I understand what you mean about this being the darkest moment though, I felt the same way at about two months. My husband and I were not able to have sex for three and a half months following my surgery and I felt like I had been through the surgery for nothing. To me having painful sex was easier to deal with than not being able to have sex at all. I felt like a horrible wife.
But after saying all of that, today I am pain free and able to enjoy sex with my husband. I am glad that I had the surgery. Keep in mind that whether you have to have your scar removed or not, there will be an end to your pain. All of us have felt the way you're feeling at one point or another and I am confident that you will also be pain free one day soon.
Keep us posted on how your feeling. I know things look difficult now, but keep looking forward. Your day is coming.

Re: I really need to ask this

Thank you for all you have said I am going to try because there is nothing else I can do, but at least you have given me some hope and a ton of understanding.

Re: I really need to ask this

Sorry to double post, but that's exactly how I am feeling, my boyfriend and I are not able to have sex at all, and I am feeling like painful sex was better than a possible mutilation that left me unable to accept him.
One question if you can, did it (the area of pain) hurt upon just touch, or at night at times without being touched?
If it was just on touch for me I think waiting would be easier, it's the unproved rawness and burning that is too parallel to VVS pre-op that is maddening.

Re: I really need to ask this

I have 2 spots left from my surgery. For me, they are two small dark pink circles right on or after the incision line - one on each side. My doc told me that mine was probably residual vestibulitis. I took that as he didn't excise all of it and that was left behind. I don't know for sure, though. Anyways, my surgery was in March. It hurt to touch those spots if I pushed on them but they were unaffected when I used dilators until I got to the big penis size ones. The bigger size dilators stretched by entry to the point of where those spots are and put pressure on them. My doc didn't give me any creams for it. He told me to try lidocaine. I had lidocaine left over from before my surgery. So I used it. With lidocaine on those two small spots, I am able to have pain-free sex. I consider this a complete sucess. Lidocaine before the surgery never really took the pain away. It just dulled it. Now, I enjoy sex and can say it feels good. I do wonder about the future of the two red spots (Will I have them removed later on? Will it get worse?). But, it's been 9 months and I'm doing great so I need to live in the now and quit worrying.

Re: I really need to ask this

After around 3-4 weeks post-op I only had pain upon touch. If you are having pain all the time, I would make sure that your doctor is aware of that. I'm sure that there is something that will help.

Re: I really need to ask this

I've just been reading through these posts and I'm glad I'm not the only one ever to suffer like this post op!

I am 9 weeks post surgery now. I had a lot of deep tissue removed. I have accomplished sex twice this week but it is very sore ( and it stays sore for a day after). I can tell how small I am around the opening now - and the pain on intercourse is a terrible ripping, stretching feeling.

I am also feeling like a total loser wife:-( Before the op I could have sex with very little pain, but the pain would flare about 10 seconds after sex and last like that for up to 4 days, so it made sex worthless to me. But now I'm thinking it was better to be sore after sex than during sex!! And what if I stay this sore forever and I will always have sore, almost impossible sex from now on because of the surgery???

It is comforting to hear that it took some of you months to tolerate sex at all. I hope that will happen for me too....

Re: I really need to ask this

Intersting now I am totally confused. Perhaps Dr Goldstein could clarify why the women you mention with pain at the posterior vestibule - 4 6 8 had such success with surgery. I read the post that he sent about those areas being indicative of PFD???
Also, is there a reason that he only addresses one or two questions when there are many waiting answers?
I joined this forum for a professional opinion, there are many online forums to join just to exchange info with random people suffering the same issues. I have several out there still awaiting replies

We are sorry you have been disappointed with the number of replies you have gotten. We hope you can find a forum more to your liking with an on-line doctor.

I thought that was what this was supposed to be?

Re: I really need to ask this

We never said Dr. Goldstein would be available to answer all questions that are posted. This is a forum not a live chat room.

Re: I really need to ask this

Moderator, whilst I understand you try your best to respond to everyone and give them answers, I get the feeling you have no idea what it's like to be in chronic pain. A lot of us are in pain, confused, and looking for answers. I understand Dr. G can't respond to all postings but maybe encouragement is a better answer than telling people on here to go find a different forum.
