TOPIC: polycystic ovaries

3 years, 9 months ago #22340

polycystic ovaries

On top of my vestibulitis, I may also have polycystic ovaries. I have acne and a 6 wk menstruation cycle. I had a vaginal ultrasound done which revealed 4 cysts on a 4mL ovary and 9 cysts on a 7 mL ovary. I guess the requirement is 12 cysts. I was wondering how normal it is to have cysts on your ovaries, and if anybody else has had this condition.

I don't meet a lot of the other typical descriptors- no history of diabetes in my family, not hairy or overweight.

Re: polycystic ovaries

I also was diagnosed with it after getting an ultrasound (one ruptured). I, too, am not hairy and I am thin, so not the typical sign that makes doctors check. It does makes you question the issue of hormones in relation to vestibulitis. To answer your question, it is quite normal to find cysts. With polycystic-ovarian syndrome the cysts are generally small and are not harmful. The only thing that could be problematic is when you go off the pill to have kids, it might be harder, since generally people with poly-cystic ovarian syndrome have problems with regular periods.

Re: polycystic ovaries

Thanks for responding Janet. Have you found a treatment that worked for your vestibulitis?

Also, did your vaginal ultrasound hurt? I was told it shouldn't be painful, but it was extremely painful. I held back tears for a long time, but finally I couldn't take it. The nurse seemed taken aback. Just curious if it was painful for you since you have the polycystic ovaries too.

Re: polycystic ovaries

I am so sorry to hear that. I had no pain. My pain is only at the vesitibules so insertion always is painful but then it is fine as long as there is no friction. Did it hurt because you have large cysts? Mine a a series of really small ones.
