Surgery for Vestibulitis

I have been diagnosed with vulvar vestibulitis and vaginismus (as a result of the vestibulitis). I have been to 3 doctors. 1 told me that I should never have the surgery (to remove the painful tissue) and 2 told me that I should. The one I went to recently told me this in about 3 minutes and told me to call and schedule a date for the surgery. I have read a little about it and apparently it is pretty serious, so I'm nervous about a doctor who would recommend it so quickly. But maybe the problem is just really obvious and I should just go through with it. I am 24 and have been married for 3 years... it has been a problem the whole time I've been married.

Does anyone have any suggestions/recommendations? I don't want to do the surgery too rashly, but I'm desperate and nothing else has worked.

I am in South Carolina and would also love a recommendation if anyone has seen a good gynecologist in this area. Help!

Re: Surgery for Vestibulitis

Hi there!!!

I live in South Africa and I just had the surgery last week and I have had vestibulitis for 7 years. It is the worst condition ever and no one understands it unless they too have had it!!!! You are not alone!!!

I just got married a year ago and it is really a huge obstacle for partners. A number of doctors told me there was no surgery for this and that I must just "learn to live with it" or " have a glass of wine and relax". Can you believe it?

I refused to believe this nonsense and was getting desperate as I had not found anything that worked even a little bit and, believe you me, I've tried EVERYTHING.

After searching around the net I found out about vestibulectomies. I did a ton of research and there are conflictiog opinions out there about whether or not to do it and how bad/good the recovery is. I think all ops are serious, but I figured, if I was suicidally sore anyway I had nothing to lose!!! I had to fly to another city to have the op as I was looking for the best vulvar specialist in the country. Dr Goldstein told me to make sure I had the best specialist!!

So far the recovery has not been bad at all and I am really hoping it will work and put an end to this. Please let me know if you have more questions. I will be writing on this board every now and then to tell everyone how I am doing. This board was a lifesaver for me!!!
