Are all Tricyclic antidepressants equal?

I have tried 10mg Amitriptyline for vestibulodynia but discontinued after 3 days because it made me extremely tired.

I am now taking 10mg Nortriptyline which does not have side effects but is not helping at all with the pain.

Are all the tricyclic drugs equal or might another be helpful? I'm trying to decide if I should up the dose or try another. Since I haven't noticed any difference in my pain I'm not sure if taking more would help either.

Be sure to ask your doctor before you change the dosage of any medicine.

Re: Are all Tricyclic antidepressants equal?

Of course, I have an appt coming up to discuss the dose but she is not a specialist in using these medicines for this purpose. I was hoping Dr Goldstein would be able to tell me if one of the tricyclic meds doesn't work... that means they all wont ect.

If one tricylcic doesn't work, it doesn't mean that others wont work for you. Hope you find the right med. for you.
