Neurontin/Gabapentin and Vestibulitis
I had a vestibulectomy in Mid-October 08 for constant itching and burning. (no pain with sitting, intercourse, etc.) I could not wear pants at all. PRIOR to surgery I controlled the symptoms with Gabapentin. Although I hated the slightly drugged feeling, it worked with just the right dosage. Occasionally, I felt ALL OVER itching...head to toe. -No rash - Not the same exact place - Just very random. It almost resembles a reaction to morphine after surgery, that I experienced many years ago. (Mainly on the nose, eyes, eyebrows, groin and scalp)
(Also extremely blood shot eyes.)
Since surgery, Dr. still prescribed medicine. I am almost convinced that it is the cause of any lingering itching, etc. I am still feeling the all over itch. (which does include nasal area, eyes and groin area.) I am very slowly tapering the medicine on my own. Still itchy, but not so much vaginal. YAY!
I plan to be completely off of med. in the next two days.
Has anyone had a similar experience?
Could this be withdrawl symptoms when too much time passes between dose? Could this be allergy to drug?
PS
I have researched this drug, and am alarmed to find that not only is it prescribed for epilepsy, but also for bi-polar and other similar mental health conditions. A new warning regarding suicide will be issued Jan. 31, 2009.
