post hysterectomy pain

Five years ago I had a hysterectomy. Since then I have been unable to have intercourse. Any attempt at penetration has been excruciatingly painful. Doctors have told me that there is nothing discernible to cause this. I was given a plastic dilator but eventually got fed up of inserting this every night. There seemed to be some easing with the dilator but actual penetration with my husband was not really any better. I am nearly 60 years old and have never had any problems like this before.

Can I do anything to recover our sex life?

Re: post hysterectomy pain

can you figure out where the pain is coming from?Did you keep your ovaries? I kept mine, so it shouldn't have anythign to do with hormones as far as a desire, but I have a similar problem.

I had my laparo hyst back in Septemember - 5 months ago. I have very little desire anymore or if I do, then it quickly goes away when I have strange, sometimes burning like sensations and pressure that just ruins it. sometimes the pain/sensation is worse than others like when I need to have a BM. It is hard to say exactly where the feellign is coming frmo, but think it is the upper vaginal area (my cervix was removed).

My dr says all should be fine adn I should just just have a glass of wine adn get my mind off of it like it is all in my head. I feel like I am doomed for life after this last time I went in and tried to realy tell him it isn't right, and he said "well at least you don't have periods anymore!" and you may have had some of ths before an "this may be normal for you..."

I only had some intermittent pain during intercourse before the surgey, but still had a desire and definitely had pleasure. but not anymore.... I finally found thsi website adn going to search aroudn and see if I can find others that have similar issues and what it could be.

just lots of strange symptoms. sometimes I ride a bike and then my lower labia/vulva area feels warm and uncomfortable...

I am very frustrated. I try to be upbeat and give it time thinking maybe I was just slow to heal. My dr. did find that I had granulation tissue and did a brief chemical cauterization in December and thought it was better after a few weeks, but then tried to have sex and felt pulling and no pleasure again.

Re: post hysterectomy pain

If your doctor thinks a glass of wine will increase your desire then you need another doctor. This one sounds really insensitive to your pain and worries. See if you can get a second opinion from a different doctor on your recovery process.

Re: post hysterectomy pain

Is your pain upon penetration or with deep thrusting? This very important because it helps narrow down the cause of your pain.

Have you used vaginal and vulvar estrogen replacement since the surgery?
