5 yrs w/pain, ?'s for vestibulectomy

I'm 21 years old and have been having vulvar/vaginal pain for the past 5 years. I have been to 14 doctors & specialists. Numerous trips to emergency room & also to psychiatrists for severe depression & anxiety. I've been misdiagnosed for 4 years and finally went out of state to a specialist in Minnesota to be diagnosed with Pudendal Neuralgia. I had the nerve release surgery in october after numerous failed nerve blocks. The doctor said it would take 9 to 24 months to actually heal. A few months ago a doctor at University of Madison suggested I undergo a vestibulectomy. Is it too soon to have the vestibulectomy after I just had the pudendal nerve surgery? I am very concerned about this and any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Why don't you also speak to the doctor who did the nerve release surgery. See if he thinks it would be wise to do this now.

Yes, the doctor recommending the vestibulectomy knows that I just had the nerve release surgery in Oct. But he isn't familiar with Pudendal Neuralgia and the surgery I had done. Which worries me.

I will try to get in contact with the doctor who performed this surgery and will ask him if he thinks it's a good idea to go ahead with the vestibulectomy.

I would not jump into another surgery. You should have the doctor evaluate the muscles and connective tissue first to see if there is tightness and restrictions. If s/he does not know how to do this, then seek a physical therapist that specializes in pelvic floor dysfunction to get another opinion. Dr. Goldstein, for example, will make sure that there is no muscular tightness or tissue restrictions before recommending a vestibulectomy.
