painful itching-help, anyone?

ok there has to be some one else out there that can help. I have had terrible itching and burning for over a year! Been to several doctors with no help. They have treated me for fungus, yeast and dry skin. Nothing is helping. I cant take it any more. I can get it to subside with use of cortizone for a while but will come back as soon as cortizone wears off. It seems to only affect the top of exterior of vagina and sometimes my belly button too.

Have you been to a dermatologist? This may not be related to anything like a yeast infection, but may be more of a localized skin condition (exczema or the like).

Lichen sclerosus and lichen simplex chronicus can result in burning, rawness, or soreness, and significant itching with resulting pain on scratching. Has your doctor mentioned this as a possibility or tried a topical corticosteroid cream for you?

Take a good look at your lube too. If it has anything like fructose or sucrose...anything with the "ose" at the end is basically sugar. You might be allergic and it my be making you itch worse and can even give you a chronic yeast infection. Try lubes that are water based or sugar free. They have plenty of different brands on the net or check your local drugstore like CVS, RiteAid,Eckard, etc. The one I use is for diabetics and it works great. I'm sure you will find something in conjuntion with your medication for you skin. Good Luck!

I agree, please consult either a gynecologist or dermatologist who specializes in vulvar disease ( WWW.ISSVD.org . Re: painful itching-help, anyone?

Thank you all for the help. I did check out the Lichen sclerosus. Then I went to my reg gyn. She agreed that it could be although I didn't have the tell tale white patches. We did not have a biopsy done but she did prescribe clobotisol (?) which has helped about 90%!
